Julia Kaars
Julia is a long term resident of Lane Cove having grown up in Northwood where my parents moved in 1939 when River Road was still dirt! Julia attended Lane Cove Public School then North Sydney Girls High before completing a secretarial diploma at Gore Hill Technical College. Since then she has mostly worked in the legal profession, currently as a conveyancing paralegal for a sole practitioner in Lane Cove. Julia is also studying to become a licensed conveyancer. Julia lived in Wahroonga whilst raising my family, returning to Lane Cove in 2002. She was pleased to find the close knit community of my childhood thriving and, indeed enhanced, by the influx of migrants as well as the mix of ages. After returning to Lane Cove Julia became involved in the community via aqua classes at the aquatic centre. The classes demonstrate the diversity of the Lane Cove community – from teenagers and young mums to grandmothers and everything in between many of them born in other countries and cultures. The older women, some of whom have lived abroad, have some wonderful stories to tell. It is this vibrant mix which makes Lane Cove such a wonderful place to live.As a member of Lane Cove Alive Julia sees her role as continuing to be involved in the community through both work and social activities, listening to what people are saying about how we can evolve, whilst still maintaining the rich community we have. Julia's work and social activities mean that she talks with a wide cross section of people on a daily basis. Julia says that this gives her the opportunity to learn where improvements may be made as well as maintaining and improving existing amenities and community programs in a sustainable way.
