Lane Cove Alive wishes all a very happy and prosperous 2012. Please keep in touch through the Lane Cove Alive column in the Village Observer each month. Remember that if you wish to discuss any matters concerning the Lane Cove Alive Revitalisation Project - comprising Longueville Rd from the junction of Epping Rd to Lane Cove Public School, Burns Bay Rd down to the roundabout and the Rosenthal area, I am happy to see you in person, talk on the phone or correspond by email or letter.
During my all too short January break I had the pleasure of delivering a bundle of 25 reusable caliico bags and two lap tops, one personal and the other a decommissioned LCALG item, to the Village of Kasongan in Jogjakarta, Java, Indonesia. Josh Handani, (centre) a very motivated community leader, pictured with his family and neighbours, was thrilled to receive these donations which will assist him in spreading the notion of a sustainable future to the younger generation of the village. Kasongan is a traditional pottery village with at least 70% of the families involved in the production of terra cotta gargoyles, waterpots and roof embellishments. The use of plasic bags is excessive in Indonesia and Josh is determined to educate his family and neighbours in sustainable practices. Josh is very keen to establish a strong link to overseas communities undertaking the same endeavour. The Lane Cove Sustainability Action Group's reusable Bag Share Campaign is gaining momentum and I hope to put President ann Horn in touch with Josh so that they may share information and successes.
