Hi there,

Lane Cove Alive hosted a very successful Lane Cove Chamber of Commerce ‘kickstart revival’ meeting on 19 April.  Close to 20 business people had the opportunity of catching up with old mates and meeting newcomers to the Village. It was great to see Harl and Yvonne Davis, the new owners of Epitome Restaurant as well as long term local business icons such as Len Wallis and John Bykerk.  John has generously donated office space to Lane Cove Alive.

During the course of the evening we reflected on ‘things that have made Lane Cove Village an attractive and vibrant place in the past, things that are currently making the village buzz and things that will be able to make the Village prosper in the future’.

Amongst other issues, the gathering identified the critical need to regain a better business mix, the need for business owners to take more pride in presenting graffiti-free clean well painted shop fronts including regularly cleaned windows and the need to ‘clean up’ the Plaza.

The good news is that the Plaza, despite business mix changes and the delayed development still manages to be a vibrant and active place with lively entertainment, loyal customers and great community spirit.  Lane Cove Alive’s task is to make sure that the ‘vibe’ is sustained and the economic future of Lane Cove secure.

We can only achieve future prosperity by working together. From my past experience of managing revitalisation projects I can confidently state that it is imperative that Lane Cove Alive works in concert with a motivated and active Chamber of Commerce so that everyone who wishes to be involved has the opportunity to take part in resolving the challenges and celebrating the successes that will arise as change occurs in the Village.

The Chamber of Commerce is seeking expressions of interest from the Lane Cove business community to appoint a new executive. Scott Bennison, the current President would welcome your inquiry.  Please call Scott on 9420 9558 or catch him during his coffee break in the Plaza.

Lane Cove Alive News Briefs

Council’s proposed Sustainability Levy supports a series of Lane Cove Alive proposed projects such as the development of a Structure Plan, a quick response Graffiti minimisation Plan, a Shop Locally/Retail Tenancy Marketing Plan and other improvements to the Plaza.

Please consider this when deciding on the future economic sustainability of Lane Cove and your support for Council’s Sustainability Plan proposal.

Please support our Shop Locally campaign and don’t forget to ask for a reusable Lane Cove Alive shopping bag when next you shop at BWS, Photocentric, Lane Cove Delicatessen & Organics or Eyes on Lane Cove.

Encourage your favourite shops to contact Lane Cove Alive to get on board. I invite you to visit the Lane Cove Alive website at www.lc-alive.org to keep up to date with what we have done, what we are doing and will be doing in the future.
