Draft Lane Cove Village Public Art Strategy and Draft Lane Cove Public Art Master Plan

The time for submission has now passed.

The Lane Cove Public Art Strategy is an integral component of the Lane Cove Village Public Domain Master Plan both of which are the direct result of the Lane Cove Structure Plan.  Lane Cove ALIVE has been the catalyst for all three of these studies which were identified as major strategic projects in the Lane Cove ALIVE Action Plan and were endorsed for  action in the subsequent Lane Cove ALIVE Leadership Group (LCALG) Strategic Plan.

(please be patient this is a large file)

The Strategy and the Master Plan propose a spectrum of public art media, locations and artists. It also outlines simple and effective strategies for procurement. The proposed projects aim to enrich Lane Cove’s thriving Public Spaces.

Council invites you to view the Draft Public Art Strategy and Master Plan at the Civic Centre, Lane Cove and Greenwich Libraries or you can download it online.

Transition Lane Cove - towards a Sustainable Energy Future

I have left the article below with its references to Peak Oil and the transition network for the readers' general information and will add additional reference links as time goes by.

Peak Oil Article

 EARTH HOUR EVENT

Over 20 local torchlight devotees experienced a very informative night in very pleasant company on Saturday 28 March 2009 at the Lane Cove Earth Hour Community Event at the Senior Citizens Centre on Longueville Rd.  Ruth Wallsgrove revealed how the beginnings of Transition Sydney started with a small gathering of three over coffee in a City arcade.  The movement has spread throughout communities in Australia the USA and UK.  The reality of Peak Oil is here and now and we must find ways of reducing our energy needs.  'Localisation' and resilience are keys to the future. Less trips by car to market, saying no to the plastic shopping bag, helping develop community gardens, shopping locally are all ways we can all begin the challenge to reduce our footprint. Valuing and using local skills and services will keep the economy and the community actively 'pumping'. Transition Towns (or Villages) is an international movement gaining momentum with many Australian communities already on board. Basically Lane Cove ALIVE would like to join this growing number of pioneering communities who are working at grass roots level to address the challenges of PEAK OIL and CLIMATE CHANGE.

Graffiti Removal Program

Lane Cove ALIVE has been working with Lane Cove Council on a Graffiti Removal Program.

This program  involves the removal of graffiti by Council at no charge and covers the village retail/commercial precinct. This is a great service and certainly does assist in combating the graffiti problem. Permission from building owners is required, for more details including the Permission Form please contact this office or check our website or Council’s www.lanecove.nsw.gov.au. To report any new graffiti please call 9911 3606.

Changes to Car Parking In Lane Cove

During the current construction works for the Lane Cove Market Square Development, car parking has become more difficult around the village centre. Council has worked together with several representatives from the community, including the Traffic Committee, Lane Cove ALIVE and the Lane Cove Chamber of Commerce and has revised some interim car parking solutions which plan to improve the current situation.
